Develop Clear Qualification Pathways for Recovered Nutrient Materials

Details
The nutrient-recovery work combines chemical and structural characterisation with soil incubation and greenhouse testing. These methods answer questions about composition, carbon mineralisation and plant or soil response. They provide different evidence from the information needed to establish an appropriate route for a recovered material's intended use. The project's policy analysis also identifies uncertainty around the qualification and market introduction of recovered resources. The practical lesson is to develop the technical evidence and the application pathway in parallel, so that experimental performance is interpreted within a clearly defined intended use.
Unclear waste classification and product-qualification pathways increase regulatory uncertainty and the costs of market introduction.
Pilot 2 combines material characterisation with controlled agronomic testing. D7.3 proposes clearer conformity routes and agronomic guidance for recovered nutrient materials.
Material testing is ongoing, while the policy brief sets out recommendations for qualification and intended use.
Recommendation
Provide clear testing, labelling and conformity pathways, with health and safety checks and agronomic guidance on application rates.
Transfer Conditions
Qualification pathways depend on the recovered material and its intended application.
