Sentina Water Balance: Reclaimed-Water Supply Scenario

How much additional water could be needed for ecological maintenance and irrigation around the Sentina Reserve?

Technical Details
The water balance calculates demand separately for the reserve's ponds and agricultural irrigation, then compares each requirement with the available canal supply. Annual pond demand is 883,008 m³ and irrigation demand is 1,074,000 m³. Existing supply is estimated at 277,344 m³ for ponds and 114,566 m³ for irrigation. Subtracting existing supply gives additional requirements of 605,664 m³ and 959,434 m³ respectively, totalling 1,565,098 m³ per year. Treated wastewater is examined as a potential additional source. The balance is a planning calculation of demand and supply, distinct from measured delivery by the future reuse system.
Reported consortium canal supply: 277,344 m³/year for ponds and 114,566 m³/year for irrigation, totalling 391,910 m³/year.
The assessment estimates annual demand of 883,008 m³ for the ponds and 1,074,000 m³ for irrigation, totalling 1,957,008 m³. The resulting additional supply requirement is 605,664 m³ for ponds plus 959,434 m³ for irrigation, or 1,565,098 m³/year. Brodolini treated effluent is assessed as a potential source to address this gap.
The calculation covers April to October. Actual reuse depends on water availability, conveyance, water quality, ecological suitability and authorisations.
