Pilot 2 / Value Chain 1: Water for Irrigation and Nature Restoration
The Sentina Natural Reserve suffers from drought during summer months. The irrigation consortium cannot fully meet the water demand needed for agricultural irrigation and for maintaining the ponds in the reserve.
At the same time, the Brodolini wastewater treatment plant could potentially provide a non-conventional water source.
CSSBoost develops a water reuse value chain where municipal and industrial wastewater is treated at the WWTP and further polished through nature-based solutions, such as constructed wetlands.
The reclaimed water is then distributed for agricultural irrigation and nature restoration.
The value chain includes hydrogeological water-balance assessment, pilot plant design, pre-filtration, NBS implementation, start-up, long-term monitoring and final assessment.
Implementation of nature-based solutions: target 2 units in series.
Reused wastewater flow: target from 0.2 up to 1 m³/h.
Water quality compliance with regulatory limits for water reuse: Italian DL 39/2023, DM 185/2003 and EU 741/2020.
Monitoring includes continuous probes and periodic laboratory analysis of chemical, physical and microbiological parameters, metals and micropollutants.
