North Black Forest Pilot Progress: Recycling and Reusable Packaging

What is the implemented baseline and development status of the two plastics value chains?

Technical Details
The pilot description maps the actors, processes and resource relationships in the collection-bag and reusable-packaging value chains. The collection-bag case distinguishes the existing use of external recyclate from the proposed recovery of used bags into new production. The packaging case connects biocarbon preparation, polymer compounding and product manufacture with return, inspection, cleaning and recycling. Process mapping and engagement with industrial partners clarify the data and technical conditions needed for modelling and demonstration. Material availability and the compatibility of the compound with the intended extrusion process are central implementation questions.
Existing collection-bag recycling and reusable-sheet systems.
The collection-bag chain already uses externally sourced recyclate and seeks a closer used-bag-to-new-bag loop. The reusable-sheet chain has an existing return and recycling model and investigates a wood-derived biocarbon compound. Development includes adaptation from injection-moulding conditions towards the intended extrusion route.
The biocarbon compound and extrusion process are under development. Industrial prototype validation and comparable lifecycle assessment are still needed to evaluate performance targets.
