North Black Forest Polymer Circularity: Business Model and Market Hypotheses
Owner: CSSBoost WP6 / Task 6.2 consortium team
Overview
Business model
CSSBoost WP6 / Task 6.2 consortium team
The North Black Forest business-model work examines circular configurations for collection bags and reusable packaging. The first case links waste collection and recycling with demand for suitable secondary plastic in bag production. The second connects biocarbon production, polymer compounding, twin-wall manufacturing and a return-and-reuse pathway.
Commercial feasibility depends on coordination between the actors supplying, processing and using the material. Processing compatibility and quality requirements affect which recovered streams can become usable manufacturing inputs. For packaging, return, inspection, cleaning and the handling of non-reusable fractions are part of the operating model. Workshops and process mapping provide a basis for clarifying these relationships with the participating companies.
The current business and financial work establishes assumptions to be tested using pilot operating information. Cost feasibility, pricing and the value proposition are to be refined through bottom-up validation. Financial-analysis and investment-planning activities build on this evidence, while exploitation work considers the ownership, market position and use of project results.
Market & Value Proposition
Waste operators, polymer processors, manufacturers, packaging users and regional industrial networks.
Support reliable secondary-material supply, appropriate material quality and traceable cooperation between processors and product users.
Financial Analysis
Scenario-specific sorting, cleaning, processing and manufacturing changes. Investment needs depend on the selected material and recovery route.
Collection, sorting, cleaning, processing energy, quality control, rejects and coordination; return-system costs where reusable packaging is involved.
Potential sales of recovered materials or products and circular service income. Demand, prices and displacement of virgin materials require validation.
Assumptions
Separate the existing bag-recycling and reusable-sheet business activities from the CSSBoost development intervention. The current bag baseline includes external recyclate. New compound content and footprint benefits remain targets until extrusion compatibility, product quality, volume and comparable assessment are evidenced.
Risks
Material quality and contamination; compound supply; extrusion compatibility; product acceptance; repeat-use and take-back performance; incomplete operational data and an unrepresentative virgin-material comparator.
