The Challenge ("As-Is")

In Crete, sheep wool is currently considered a waste stream and is often discarded or unmanaged due to the lack of local processing infrastructure. This creates an environmental burden and represents a missed opportunity for valorising livestock by-products in local agriculture.

The Solution ("To-Be")

CSSBoost introduces a circular value chain where sheep wool is collected from farmers, transported through organised logistics, processed using a low-energy method, and converted into wool-based pellets. These pellets are intended to function as organic soil enhancers and fertilisers, improving soil water retention and nutrient availability while reducing the need for chemical fertilisers.

Monitored KPIs

Quantity of wool collected and processed: target 100 tons.

Percentage reduction in wool waste disposal: target 50%.

Improvement in soil water retention and nutrient content: target 15%.

Adoption rate by local farmers: target 30 farmers.

Current value indicates collection starting soon, with 2 farmers already using wool-based soil improvers.
